Applying to O. P. Jindal Global University in the‘Final Round’

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

Wait! Is there even a ‘Final Round’? Did the last round of this year’s admissions cycle not close on April 15, 2022? Well, yes and no. Whilst the Board examinations took up all your time and attention, and rightly so, this is a quiet development that happened on the side and something that ought to be more widely known. O. P. Jindal Global University does, after all, feature in the first bracket of private undergraduate universities in India that several students aspire to!

So this was a serendipitous discovery. When one navigates the Jindal University website, there is no explicit mention of the final admission. No mention of the admission process details, timelines, or deadline.

And yet the ‘apply’ option to each of the 12 diverse schools under the JGU umbrella is active! Intrigued, we decided to explore further. So we reached out to the admissions team, and here are some valuable insights we thought more students need to be made aware of before you’re in for a rude wake-up call after the board exams.

Our detailed conversation with the admissions team revealed the following:

1. For each of the schools, applications are being considered based on seat availability. There are a limited number of seats for each programme. Once these are filled, the admissions for that programme will close. This is why no deadlines and interim dates have been declared on the site.

2. Students who are keen, should create a login as soon as possible, fill out the application form and submit their completed applications at the earliest.

3. An important point to note while filling out the application :

  • On the ‘Academic Details’ page, under the head 'Which competitive examination have you appeared for or intended to appear for, there are four options: JSAT, SAT, ACT, LSAT-India. Please fill in the relevant details in case you have given either the SAT, ACT or the LSAT-India tests.

  • If, however, you have not, and JSAT – The Jindal Scholastic Aptitude Test is what you intend to give, then please select the JSAT option and in the ‘JSAT Details’ table, under the head ‘RESULT STATUS’ select ‘AWAITED’. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Only when you submit your application will you get a link to apply for the JSAT. That is why it is crucial to complete and submit your application at the earliest so that the JSAT booking slot is confirmed.

4. Please reserve your slot once you have the JSAT link. As soon as you receive the link, you should ideally apply for a slot that isn’t too far from the day you receive the link so that you have good days to prepare/revise thoroughly while also making sure it is not too late to sign up.

5. Based on the overall strength of your application, your personal statement and how you have answered the supplemental questions in the application, and your JSAT score (the minimum requirement being 50%), candidates would be shortlisted for the interview stage.

We can help you prepare for this. Reach out to garima@evolvingbeing.org for more information.

6. Another vital insight for students is what the Admissions Team is looking for while evaluating each candidate. They regard your past academic performance (subject to their minimum eligibility requirement) as just one facet of what defines you. They are keener to understand what potential and passion you bring to your academic journey going forward.

  • How carefully have you selected your subject major?

  • What truly is the keenness of your intent?

  • Have you engaged extensively with your chosen subject?

  • Does this reflect in your essays and your personal statement?

  • Have you done some internships or co-curricular work that captures this passion?

As long as this conviction and confidence shine through in your application and your interview, you will be that candidate they want to admit.

7. Another pro-tip: If you are very clear on your field of study, then applying to your chosen school rather than multiple schools under the Jindal umbrella may work in your favour. It is yet another strong signal to the Admissions Team regarding your clarity of purpose and commitment.

So if Jindal Global University is your dream destination or a strong Plan B option, we suggest you create your login and start the application process right away.

Focus on your essays, submit your application as soon as possible, and reserve your JSAT slot if you are unsure or unclear about whether the application cycle has ended or not. We reassure you that the application is still open despite the deadlines' uncertainty since we have spoken to the relevant parties and covered you. Why wait when you can still enrol at the university? So begin the process now! We wish you the very best!

In case you have any further queries or would like some guidance on how to draft strong essays or statements of purpose or prepare for the JSAT and personal interview, feel free to reach out to us at garima@evolvingbeing.org . We would be happy to help.
